Summer In Kaprun

Summer In Kaprun

A pretty mountain town known for its medieval fortresses and summer walking routes, holidays to Kaprun offer so much to see and do.

Kaprun calling

Set within the boundaries of the Hohe Tauern National Park, Kaprun is the place to go for exploring the lush Austrian outdoors. Kaprun is a paradise for walkers, with mile upon mile of trails through blooming meadows all the way up to the peak of Maiskogel and the Kitzsteinhorn glacier.

In town and beyond

The 12th-century Kaprun Castle is one of the oldest in the Salzburg area and gives a fascinating insight into the Pingzau region’s turbulent history. The lake town of Zell am See is a short bus ride away and makes for a lovely day’s exploring. And closer to home, there’s a good selection of quiet bars and cafés, with regular live music events to set the mood all across Kaprun.

Out and about

Here are some ideas of things to do when staying in Kaprun:

  • Waterfalls
  • Morning Skiing on the Kitzsteinhorn
  • Castle
  • Museum
  • Wildlife spotting
  • Paragliding
  • Admire the glittering waters and mountain views at the Hochgebirgsstauseen dam
  • Explore Kapruner Burg Fortress, one of the oldest castles in the province of Salzburg
  • Indulge in pools and spa facilities – all with amazing views – at the Tauern Spa

Summer Skiing

The facilities for boarders and skiers at the Kitzsteinhorn Glacier are in operation even in summer. This summer skiing pleasure offers unique contrasts: The cable cars take you from the green and flowering valley bottom uphill to the eternal white.

Here you carve on wide glacier slopes in natural snow. The sun terrace invites to leisurely hours on sun loungers in between. Or you ski back into the valley, swap your ski outfit for bikini and swimming trunks and cool down with a dive into the crystal-clear water of Lake Zell in summerly temperatures.
